The site is located in Yim Tin Tsai where is the only salt farm in Hong Kong. The village is still operating with the traditional salt farm technology from Hakka which is rare to see in another place. Also, the whole village is recently shortlisted for UNESCO under the Art and village category.
During the visit, most of the visitors are curiosity how the slat crystalizes from the seawater, and they always keep looking at the crystalizing pattern from the pool because it is beautiful. And even the most popular souvenir is related to salt craft. Therefore I try to explore a way to connect the salt and the space.
From an architectural aspect, inspired by the nature, I try to adapt this pattern to the skylight design in order to achieve a nature-made space. The crystalizing pattern called Fleur de sel not only diffuses the direct sunlight to a more comfortable level, but the pattern itself is also unique so different skylight has a slightly different spacial feeling.
