The function of a clinic is to provide compassionate care and healing to the community. We believe Architecture is supposed to reflect and accommodate the function of a space without compromising human interaction with nature. Modern day clinics are not designed with this approach resulting in a disconnection with the healing properties provided by daylight. This project aims to focus on natural light and how it enhances a space to further the wellbeing of a user. The use of perforated brick as a façade system became the primary focus on the manipulation of light, showcasing how changes in daylight affect a space, setting different moods as a result of this, while also providing a natural ventilation system. Keeping this in mind, we intentionally chose walls that were in alignment with the sun path that would maximise the use of light through a perforated brick façade. In relation to the sun path, the addition of a centralized, open courtyard connecting both spaces also allows sunlight to pass through the buildings, further connecting to the natural environment.
