Location and ImportanceLocated in the c sector of DHA Phase 2 Islamabad. Bus stop is north facing with sunlight heating the place from its eastern to western side with different intensities. Due to it being placed in the front of the sector c park, the area is more exposed to natural light and wind than most. The bus stop is for that reason built with a heavy shade covering the span and walls securing the area from direct sunlight. There is a bench placed directly under the shade to provide a seating area for the people waiting for their ride. A few commercial buildings also line the front of the bus stop which also include a hospital. The bus stop needs to draw attention so that the workers employed in the FFBL located in the front along with the patients from the hospital and their staff can easily access it. Moreover, there is also a branch of an allied bank right across the road from the stop, which should increase the number of passengers using the stop for transport.

InterventionThe bus stop come under public use again, we planned to merge the bus stop with the park behind it. The intervention would make the area a seating space for park visitors. We have changed the design of the benches for three circular seating spaces that both face the road and the Park. The back wall of the bus stop is to be removed so that the area can be easily accessed by the people coming into the park.

PerforationsAs the area is under sunlight, we have covered the eastern and western openings with perforated walls that allow light to come in diffused forms. The perforations cause the light to make intricate patterns on the floor and benches to make it aesthetically pleasing. These holes serve also as a means of ventilation, making the area airy and lit.

Metal poleA shade is placed to hide the area from direct sunlight. The structure of the shade is a set of intricately placed geometric designs made with aluminium metal. A pole of the same metal supports the whole structure and is divided like branches to keep the dome steady. Aluminium is used because of its durability as being placed in a public area makes the site prone to occasional wear and tear. Moreover, it is a cheaper substitute for heavy supportive metals.

ShadeThe shade is made up of a light and durable material called Teflon. Teflon is used as it can withstand extreme temperatures, and can insulate the area from external heat and harmful gasses. The opaque material shades the area completely making the seating space cool down enough to sit in the area comfortably.

Seating areaThe seating area is made up of overlapping circles placed around a central pole. The material used for sitting place is wood. The area allows the person to view the scenery of the park along with the road.

ConclusionIn a nutshell, the primary objective of our study was to evaluate how our surroundings influence our bus stop and it’s design. Hence, considering the usage and need of the spot, we blended it with our background and proposed an idea as stated above.
