Humans have long relied on “light” to identify objects or as a spiritual medium of communication with God, and continue to this day. However, due to climate change, the quality of the environment in the future might become worse than ever. Hence, people are trying to find out other ways to survive and to sustain life in different ways. Humans were away from the ocean and move to the land, life become different, such as the acquisition of oxygen and resources, the allocation of space, and how it will behave. Through this design, it indicates a concept which shows that the role of light is no longer just physical lighting, but can be extended to different definitions!About 2/3 of the Earth’s area is water and gathering 20% biological species of the planet. Within them, plankton is the largest taxon in the marine biosphere, widely distributed, very diverse and be able to support the underlying food chain. Among them, microalgae occupy the highest proportion, about 40,000 species, although their size is small, but they can provide 50%-85% oxygen of the world by processing photosynthesis, so it is also called invisible forest. According to the researches, many coelenterates have a symbiotic relationship with algae. For instance, in order to obtain better daylight, some jellyfish change their physiological structure and evolve unique habits, such as chasing the sun, by controlling the light transmission efficiency to retain the zooxanthellae in the body. To create a suitable environment for each other, and achieve mutual benefit and symbiosis with the algae. For them, “light can bring the continuation of life”. Therefore, we should ask the question that is “what is the meaning of light for human beings?”Algae itself is of extremely high value, reproducing rapidly. Except effectively capturing carbon dioxide and producing oxygen, it can also be used as a biofuel, and developing many related refining products, including animal forage, medicines, nutritious foods and skin care products.Microalgae are great for treating nitrogen and phosphorus waste! It can make oxygen, also can be used as a short-term nutritional supplement, biofuels, and many other diverse uses.Climate changing, rising sea level, shrinking land areas, and coastal dwellers move towards cities all have made the environment become crowded. Therefore, humans begin to think ways to improve their lives, to acquire technology, and discover that sunlight can be turned into energy storage. However, when a certain level is achieved, or force majeure are caused due to environmental changes, the crowd has to disperse outward again, however, this time, there is no more land, the edge of living environment is the ocean.Hence, We should try to create a different way to live, maybe….Symbiotic light device, shelter in the ocean!Nature can provide a lot of inspiration, for instance, the symbiotic relationship between jellyfish and zooxanthellae.Through this project, humans rethink the new meaning and role of “daylight” for “human beings” and the new definition and use of the foreign special-purpose architectural spaces. If light is the guide of life, then, we should find a new way to live symbiotic with light!Jellyfish are able to coexist with algae by regulating the received sunlight and giving proper shelter. Humans provide light sources and development space for algae to grow, reproduce and photosynthesize, and obtain the matters they need to sustain their lives.Technology can turn sunlight into energy storage. To complement the disability of humans that we can’t get life-sustaining elements directly from sunlight so we use microalgae as the boundary to transform light into life.Algae is divided into several classes for effective uses, for instance, to increasing the receiving area of light, increasing the number of groups and oxygen production also helping to decompose wastewater and to trigger circulation. All those findings is aim to achieve to the goal that humans can design a brightly residential environment and live underwater with other living organisms.Sunlight, people, algae and this subsea installation / space support the supplying, balance and demand of interior lives also to create a recycled system.Through enlightenment from nature, starting from the concept of symbiosis between jellyfish and algae, this project creates a basic capsule as a “container of light”. It predicts that in the future the energy technology can obtain light source and uses multi-purpose algae as a “light conversion medium”, to extend the use of light to the living spaces under the ocean where light and oxygen are difficult to receive. It can create huge impact on human welfare, and retains the resilience also create sustainable development of light using.
