The project targets in general at all african rurals villages whose buildings roofs are in straw and consists in designing a device “The light tunnel” based on recycled materials. That device would be inserted into the straw roof in order to bring light to peasants during the days and at night. Straw is a hundred percent ecological material and very suitable for the climate in tropical areas where it is extremely hot like in Africa. However, very little interests are shown towards that material which is unfortunately more prevalent in rural villages in Africa. That’s why, our project targeting particularly at those villages, keep up with the logic to prettify and cheer on the use of local materials suitable for the climate of the continent like straw. Furthermore, let note that the project is implementable everywhere where there is sunlight and to other types of roofing as though roof terraces, slab, …The principal challenge of this project consists in finding natural lighting and airing solutions for buildings without windows because we notice that in those villages, most of buildings have not windows or the window is misplaced and does not favorise the ventilation of the building. Then we designed a second prototype also using recycled materials, which would be inserted into the roof too in order to favorise fresh air circulation inside the building. It brings cold air in the building and pushes away heat and hot air accumulated inside the building.
