The number of people living with dementia in the year 2010 was 3.7 million as stated in the India Report on Dementia by ARDSI. This number has shot to 5.1 million people living with dementia in India in the year 2016.In just a mere time span of twelve years, There has been an increment of 1.4 million people. It is time to take dementia seriously and the government ought to declare it as a national priority.

Global urbanization has created a complex changes in India. With the rapid increase in dementia and the urbanization the main idea was to create a day care center for the people with dementia in an urban environment for the benefit of both family members and dementia patients with the challenges in the urban area.

The main idea of design was to create a dementia day care center in a urbanized space where it can help in improving the condition of Dementia people.Circadian disruption is correlated with Dementia’s diagnosis and it has been suggested that sleep disruption could be an early warning sign of Dementia’s disease.

Two main things were addressed in this design one is creating a interest for the dementia patients throughout the day using natural light and the other one is a challenging one in the recent urbanization that is bringing in the daylight due to buildings that built in the closer proximity which does not allow sunlight to pass inside the building sufficiently.

First to engage the people of dementia throughout the day which helps them in maintaining circadian rhythm which improves their condition is achieved by introducing Grating film in the punctured walls and also using Green Dye sensitized solar cells in the front facade which creates a sense of interest to the patients.

Second is to bring natural sunlight but the building has lesser opening and buildings built in closer proximity due to vertical growth in urban areas daylight cannot be achieved through skylight. So we have used solar fiber optic cables to bring in the sunlight from rooftop and used it through out the space as sunlight benefits the persons.Even an indoor garden is created using a faux cloud ceiling but with the natural sunlight using fiber optic cables.
