Congratulations to Níall McLaughlin, who has been awarded the 2026 Royal Gold Medal by the Royal Institute of British Architects (RIBA), recognising his outstanding contribution to architectural thinking, writing, and education.

Níall McLaughlin Architects designs buildings for education, culture, health, religious worship, and housing, with a consistent and thoughtful emphasis on the inventive use of materials, the qualities of light, and the relationship between buildings and their surroundings.

We are proud that Níall is part of the esteemed jury for the Light of Tomorrow by VELUX 2026 competition for architecture students, appointed in collaboration with the International Union of Architects (UIA).

You can explore Níall McLaughlin’s work through the Daylight Talk Circling a Star and a dedicated editorial ‘Taking Light for a Walk’ by Professor Mary Anne Steane on our website, where we have had the pleasure of spotlighting his remarkable practice.
