Registration and submission for Light of Tomorrow by VELUX 2026 have now closed, and this year’s participation figures show the competition’s strong global reach.
The 2026 edition involved:
- 1,113 students
- 539 submitted projects
- 345 schools represented
- 85 countries involved
Under the overarching theme “Light of Tomorrow”, the competition challenges architecture students to explore daylight not as a secondary design consideration, but as a primary resource shaping comfort, energy efficiency, sustainability, health, and well‑being.
The 2026 edition introduces three Special Prizes in addition to 5 Regional Prizes:
- Daylight in New Buildings
- Daylight in Building Transformations
- Daylight Investigations
What’s Next?
The competition now moves into its next phase:
- Jury meeting: Copenhagen, 27-28 April 2026
- Regional winners announced: 13 May 2026
- Live finalist presentations: Eight selected teams will present their projects at the UIA World Congress of Architects, Barcelona, on 29 June 2026
- Global winner announced 29 June during the UIA Congress
