Daylight Talk #18: Light, Views, Transparencies with Liene Jākobsone

Discussing some of the practice’s projects, the lecture will reveal a significant part of the conceptual approach of Sampling: the exploration of how architecture unfolds in the eyes of its inhabitants and what unexpected and unusual experiences it can offer.

Daylight Talk #18 will be held live at the RISEBA Architecture and Design Faculty on 15 February at 13:00 and will available to watch on the D/A website from 29 February 2024.

About Sampling

Sampling is an architecture and design practice that works interdisciplinary, internationally and conceptually. It is lead by Liene Jākobsone and Manten Devriendt, who founded the practice in 2010. Sampling has carried out a vast range of projects: buildings and reconstructions of various kinds of program, development concepts for larger territories, as well as exposition and product designs. Its projects have been extensively published, and received a number of awards, prizes and other kinds of recognitions. Both partners are also active in the international academia by lecturing, hosting creative workshops, conducting research and publishing texts.

Working on different scales in their everyday practice leads Sampling to the inevitable fusion of design, architecture and even landscaping into their projects. However, the focus is always on the relationship between people, space and the environment, in attempt to influence the perception of space. In their practice, Liene Jākobsone and Manten Devriendt also seek new architecture forms and expressions within the context of contemporary technological and aesthetical challenges, considering themselves a of the defining forces behind the development of the field of architecture.
