The aim of this project was to design a sustainable future art museum in the hearth of the city of Herat in Afghnistan for and supportsing art and cullture and to create a better urban integrity. The optimized use of daylight in the interior spaces creates sustainable, warm and welcoming spaces .
The design of the roof in this project is enables the direct daylight to enter the lobbies and filtered indirect daylight into the galleries. since the interior sapces are flooded with light it encourages people to walk, and helical ramps are provided to ease that and makes it a barrier free museum. The indirect diffused daylight entered into the galleries by a cone shape (Funnel) system of the roof.
Another sustainable aspect of the project is optimizing energy consumption by completely relying on renewable solar energy creation by using Photovoltaic panels on the roofs which makes it a self sufficient building in terms of energy. The design respects accessibility, natural light and energy, visibility of functions and the monumentality of the building itself as a work of art. CLT Timber is the dominant material of the building which is very sustainbale and brings many benefits to the buildings like the reducing the carbon footprint and creating warm interior spaces.
