The local bus stop we chose as our site is located on the main service road in F 10. We chose to alter and build upon this site because we spotted a couple issues relating to its use or lack of it. The intense sun rays fall directly on those occupying the space and therefore to avoid being grilled people prefer standing under the shade the trees closeby provide. The bus stop directly faces the main F-10 markaz and should therefore be flooded with public. However it is mostly vacant because the sun is most intense when directly facing the stop. The capacity of the stop isn’t much and hence cannot sustain more than 15 people at a time. Catering to these very issues and more we planned a design that holds separate units for men and women and children. The women and children section is at the back and somewhat covered for privacy. The opening in the men’s section leads to the women’s section to allow communication to flow between the men and women if necessary. It also provides a sense of cohesion and linkage between the two units. The corridor that connects to the women’s section is left open from the top. This fights the overall congested feel of the place and still caters to the matter of privacy. It lets air and light inside and at night one can skygaze if they have ample time before the bus arrives at the stop. It isn’t necessarily for skygazing but it would definitely leave a pleasant effect on those who do.
