The farm products are the necessities for the people living in cities, where lack of spaces for farming. The transportation of importing foods from rural into urban areas leads to additional costs and related carbon dioxide emissions. Any possible solution to produce foods in highly dense cities?

This work proposed to produce ‘green food’ in the available underground space of high-rise buildings. An intelligent optical system tracks the sun and introduces natural light into the underground space. Meanwhile, considering different growth stages of ‘green food’ requires different wavelengths of light, in a different color, such as blue light in the germination stage and red light in maturity.

To maximize the production, the introduced natural light has been pre-processed into different parts of color, to satisfy the need optimally. This proposal might significantly contribute to self-sufficient cities, and reduce carbon dioxide emissions.
