Kartika and her friends come from a slum village in Indonesia, where the story of this project begins. Living in a cramped house with bare minimum living space, Kartika struggles to find a corner for a playful childhood with her friends. Due to the hot and humid tropical climate in Indonesia, the outdoor environment is either too hot and exposed to direct sunlight, or often showered in rains. They wish to build their own playground, not just a shelter from the rain and strong sun, but an emblem represents their utmost locality.

With not much resources around, nature has become their best friend. Kartika and her friends find trees with resin which potentially can be made into artistic light filtration panels. Learning their way to make the resin light filtration panel, resulted in beautiful imperfections with inconsistency of opacity, colors, shades, and textures. The self-made panels are then combined and installed as a temporary canopy or pavilion, shed light gently on their secret playground.

Fully made by their artisan spirit, the pavilion is an embodiment of the transience of light and shadow. The inconsistency of resin panels gives a rather tactile and organic stimulus of light sensory, while continuously changing its appearance throughout the day, growing a sense of wonder and curiosity. Housed under the Resin Lantern, Kartika and her friends could finally enjoy the beauty of daylight and shadows during their childhood.
