The unavailability of power supply is a predominant problem on Indigenous reserves in Canada. With a population growing four times as fast as the rest of Canada, this is an issue that needs to be addressed. The lack of infrastructure and government neglect mean that these communities face unreliable and unaffordable power supply. Ultimately the populations on these reserves are restricted, facing a reality in which they are neither able to improve or escape their situation and as night falls, they are enveloped in darkness. The proposed design aims to provide a whimsical solution that improves visibility and accessibility, bringing life and happiness back into these communities. The device consists of a telescopic pole with a translucent PVC lantern that houses a mini solar panel. The 20 ft telescopic pole allows for the height of the lighting device to be easily adjusted, meanwhile the solar powered lanterns ensure a reliable energy source.
